with Deirdre Good
Most people reading the Bible understand God to be incorporeal, that is, without a body. Language describing a masculine God is presumed to be metaphorical or poetic. In this course we will discuss and assess depictions and meanings of God's physical features: feet, genitals, torso, arms, and head described in ancient texts including the Bible in Francesca Stavrakopolou's new book, God: A Body (Random House, 2022), required text for this course.
Deirdre Good, M. Theol., S.T.M., Th.D., retired from seminary teaching and administration to the Belfast area. She has taught courses on the Book of Job, on Mary, and on the Iliad (with Juliet Baker) for Belfast Senior College.
