Photographers We May Have Missed
with Paul Sheridan
Why are some artists better remembered than others? Is it class, the market, geography, or other reasons? We will do a fairly fast look at a number of photographers from the past, from recent times, and some currently working to get an overview of who we may have missed. Plenty of links will be sent and some background about each. You will want to continue your explorations, all very easily performed, thanks to the World Wide Web. Among them: Cig Harvey, Shiho Fukada, Jutharat Pinyodoonyachet, Hyunmi Yoo, Bruna Rotunno, An-My Lê, Saiyna Bashir, Tex Williams, Zanele Muholi, Claude Cahun, Eiko Yamazawa, Lee Miller.
Paul Sheridan has a B.A. in art and an M.F.A. in photography, and in the many years he was on the faculty at the City University of New York, he also used the collected history of the medium in teaching of basic, intermediate, and advanced black and white chemical/optical photography. Now in the digital age, he continues that practice here using the internet. He has been making photographs for more than fifty-five years and has taught several well-received courses at Senior College, notably on photography, driver safety, and films.
